Wake-up call

Wake-up calls are not popular in the Slough of Despond. Some people never want to get out of bed; others can’t sleep and if the wake-up call comes when they’ve just got off to sleep they spend the day ragged and teetering.

But the ultimate wake-up call is not a loud alarm, and you have to agree to hear it.

I visited a medical household. I was scolded for not eating (again). My friend listed the physical symptoms that are waiting around the corner, rubbing their hands with glee. Get ill, then very ill, then dead. And she looked at me.

‘You don’t care, do you?’

And it’s true. I don’t. I only pretend to care.
